For more information, contact your neighborhood school or the Office of Student Services at 361-788-9250

With the first day of school only weeks away, it is time for parents to register students for the coming year.  The first day of school is August 27.

All elementary schools in VISD are opening for registration from August 7-8 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parents whose child’s last name begins with A through L are asked to go on Tuesday, August 7; parents whose child’s last name begins with M through Z are asked to register on Wednesday, August 8. Parents who have children with different last names may register on the day that best fits their schedule. They do not have to return multiple times to complete the registration process.

Middle school registration for eighth grade students is August 7 followed by seventh grade students on August 8 and sixth grade students on August 9. Registration for middle schools is conducted at the school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The make-up date for registration at the middle school level is Friday, August 10.

Victoria East High school registration is scheduled for August 8-13, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Registration of Seniors takes place on August 8, followed by Juniors on August 9, Sophomores on August 10 and Freshmen on August 13. Makeup day for missed registrations at VEHS is Tuesday, August 14.  Registration is open from 9 to noon and 3 to 7 p.m. each day.

For Victoria West High School, Senior registration is on Monday, August 6. Juniors register on August 7, followed by Sophomores on August 8 and Freshmen on August 9. The make up registration date is August 12. Friday, August 10 is the makeup day.  Registration is open from 9 to noon and 3 to 7 p.m. each day.

The registration process will include all the forms that need to be completed by parents such as the emergency notification cards, applications for meal assistance, and public information release forms for the student.  The estimated time to complete all the forms is 45 minutes.

Parents should bring their latest electric, natural gas or water bill as current proof of residence. The parent may also bring a rent receipt as proof of address. For families purchasing a home, the signed and executed sales contract may also be presented as acceptable proof of residence.

In addition to the proof of residence, parents need to provide photo identification for themselves such as a driver’s license or state issued identification card. Immunization records are required for all new students and parents should bring updated immunization records for returning students. If the school does not already have a copy of the child’s birth certificate or baptismal certificate, the parent should supply that at time of registration, as well.

Parents will be asked for the child’s Social Security number but the parent is not required to provide it. Any child for whom a Social Security number is not provided will have a number assigned through the Texas Education Agency.

VISD will continue to offer a full-day Pre-K program in the 2012-2013 school year. Pre-K registration is conducted at the same time as other elementary registration.

Parents who are seeking admission based on income need to bring proof of income. There are other ways to qualify for Pre-Kindergarten programs, including children who are of limited English proficiency, are considered homeless, have ever been in foster care of other residential care under DFPS. Children whose parent is currently on active duty in the military, was wounded or killed while on active duty, or is missing in action may also seek admission to a Pre-Kindergarten program.

Parents who will have children new to Victoria Public Schools this year are strongly encouraged to register before the beginning of school. Any parent who pre-registered in the spring and has since moved to another attendance zone may call the previous school to ask that the records be sent to the new school.

The first day of school is Monday, August 27.
